TROY JEROVETZ WINS BY INCHES IN THE SPORT MODS AT 141 SPEEDWAY
By Edward Anschutz
(Francis Creek, WI) June 23 – Travis Cain’s busted drive shaft hands Troy Jerovetz the IMCA Sport Mod victory at 141 Speedway. Other feature winners were Eric Van Iten (Mods), John Heinz (stockcar), Todd Smith (Grand National), and Sam Ambrosious (sport 4).
Nick Potts jumped to the lead from his front row starting spot and lead till lap 8 when the caution would fly, sending points leader Johnny Whitmann into the pits with a flat tire. On the restart Travis Cain would take the lead and begin to check out on the field. With the checkers waving in the air, Cain’s car busted a drive shaft out of turn 4 and his car began to coast for the checkers. It looked as though he would still get the win but right at the finish line Troy Jerovetz would sneak by and win by inches. Cain would finish second, Jesse Brey third. Points leader Johnny Whitman would rally to place fourth and Brad Lautenbach fifth.
Eric Van Iten took the lead on lap 3 and went on win his first Modified feature of the season.
Randy Markwardt Jr. would set the pace for the first 2 laps of the IMCA Modified feature. That’s when Eric Van Iten made his move taking over the top spot. A series of cautions would keep the field bunched up. Van Item would with stand pressure from Markwardt and point leader Jared Siefert. When the checkers fell it was Van Iten picking up his first win of the season. Markwardt would settle for second, point leader Siefert would finish third and Kyle Kudick and Frank Geiger would round out the top five.
John Heinz passed Jamie Colwell on lap 15 and picked up the checkers in the IMCA Stockcars.
Steven Stewart would set the early paces, until Jamie Colwell would make a move down low to take the lead away on lap 5. Colwell would pull away until a caution would slow the field on lap 12, setting up an 8 lap dash to the finish. The green would fly, this time it was John Heinz right on the back bumper of Colwell. Heinz would use the low side to take the lead away on lap 15. Heinz would fight off a late race charge from Rod Snellenberger and pick up the win. Snellenberger would cross the checkers second after starting 17th. Colwell finished third, followed by Greg Gutt and points leader Larry Karcz.
Todd Smith passed Travis Groelle on lap 5 to take the lead but Groelle stayed along Smith for the duration of the event. When racing resume Smith would pull away, Groelle would spin out of turn 2 ending his chances. Smith never looked back picking up the Grand National feature win. Ben Stumpf would place second, Matt Jackson third, Richard Hed and Travis Hansen rounded out the top five.
Sam “Bam” Ambrosious passed Michael Zizter on lap 5 to pick up the Sport 4 feature win.
Racing resumes Wednesday, June 30 as the Fun N’ Fast / Tappers and TJ’s Sports Bar will sponsor the racing. The guest class will be the IMCA Hobby Stocks.
