(Francis Creek, WI) June 16 — Juneau’s Russ Reinwald motored past Seymour’s Jamie Schmidt with two laps to go to capture the modified feature at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek.
The races got started well over an hour late as a rain shower soaked the track around 4:30 p.m.
A total of 122 cars checked in to do battle. The field included 24 modifieds, 13 Brian Peterson Grand Nationals, 24 stock cars, 18 Tisler Salvage street stocks, 28 IMCA northern sportmods and 15 sport fours.
Schmidt appeared headed for victory in the mod main, as the Seymour driver took the lead at the drop of the green. Schmidt kept the top spot through a pair of caution periods, and was pressured by mid race by both Reinwald and former track champion Jared Siefert of Luxemburg. With two laps remaining Reinwald hooked his Slick chassis up to the high side of the wet, tacky race track and cruised to victory. Schmidt hung on for second place, followed by Siefert, Green Bay’s Benji LaCrosse and Eddie Muenster.
Algoma’s Tyler Hackett fought off a tenacious Brad Lautenbach of New Franken in the final laps to win his second IMCA northern sportmod feature. Lautenbach took home second place money, followed by Luxemburg’s Chad Kaminski, defending track champion Troy Jerovetz of Green Bay and Pulaski’s JJ Anderson.
Reedsville’s Matt Reinke fought off Manitowoc rookie’s Matt McDonald and Bradley Laurent to score a popular win with his 1964 Chevelle in the Tisler Salvage street stock division. The victory was Reinke’s second of the year here. McDonald, Laurent, Francis Creek’s Kraig Koehler and Green Bay’s Tony Everard placed second through fifth, respectively.
West Allis’ Dan Sorce passed rookie Adam Broehm on lap 12 and cruised to victory in the Brian Peterson Builders Grand Nationals, his first win of the year here. Defending track champion TJ Smith snuck past Broehm on the final lap to take second. Broehm posted his best finish of the year with a third. Manitowoc’s Logan Rhode and Little Chute’s Matt Vetting took fourth and fifth, respectively.
Defending track stock car champion Junior Karcz of Pulaski wheeled past Pulaski’s Mike Coel on a lap 11 restart and when on to win the stock car feature. Coel took second, followed by Saukville’s Roger Johnson Kewaunee’s Todd Augustain and Luxemburg’s Tyler Smith.
Oconto’s Brian Johnson won the sport four feature.
The stock car main was red flagged when Whitelaw’s Mike Conard had his throttle stick on his machine. Conard’s racer bolted into a retaining fence off the turn three pit entrance. Conard was unhurt but his racer suffered significant damage.
