(Francis Creek, WI) June 29 – Seymour’s Brian Mullen inherited the lead during a caution period with six laps to go and fought off De Pere rookie Johnny Whitman to capture the 3rd annual Clash @ The Creek presented by Muenster’s Shell & Ken’s Sports at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek Wednesday.
With the $1,000 victory, Mullen has earned a spot for the new Badger Mod Tour in 2012.
A total of 104 cars showed up for the mid week special, including 35 Modifieds, 22 Stock Cars, 24 Sport mods and 26 Street stocks.
At the drop of the green it appeared the race would be a gimme for Iowa visitor Scott Olson, who shot into the lead from his front row starting spot. Olson kept the field at bay until lap 8 when Luxemburg’s Benji LaCrosse, who started ninth, worked the bottom groove to take the lead over on lap 8. LaCrosse appeared headed for smooth sailing until a caution flew on lap 24 when LaCrosse’s car made contact with Eric Van Iten. The contact forced LaCrosse, who was leading, to pit.
That handed the lead to Mullen on the restart, who kept the top spot for the final six laps to seal the deal.
De Pere rookie Johnny “Hitman” Whitman earned the second place finish while De Pere veteran Mike Mashl finished third.
Pulaski’s “Hot Rod” Snellenberger led every lap en route to victory in the 20 lap Stock Car feature. New Franken’s Mark Joski sweated out several caution periods to win his first sportmods feature at 141 Speedway. Francis Creek’s Kraig Koehler bested all foes in the street stock feature.
There will be no racing at 141 Speedway this Saturday, July 2. On Sunday, July 3 the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints will make their second appearance of the season. Brian Peterson Grand Nationals will also be on hand, with a first time feature winner in 2011 in that class pocketing $600. Sport fours and Micro Sprints will also be on hand.
141 Speedway is located 20 miles south of Green Bay on County Trunk “R” in Whitelaw. For more information call 920 863 3377. The track’s website is 141speedway.com.
