(Francis Creek, WI) April 30 – Green Bay veteran Eddie Muenster passed Fremont’s Mike Wedelstadt for the lead on lap nine and won the Modified feature at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek Saturday night.
The race was called after 10 laps due to rain. The sport four feature was also cancelled due to the rain.
A total of 104 drivers checked in, including 16 Modifieds, 17 Grand Nationals, 26 Sportmods, 15 Stock Cars, 12 Street Stocks and 18 Sport 4’s.
Muenster, who started sixth, quickly jumped into the top four at the drop of the green, as polesitter Dave Zeitler paced the opening five circuits before being passed by Wedelstadt on lap five. A pair of rain delayed cautions flew within the next three laps. On the final restart Muenster squeezed inside of Wedelstadt to take the lead. With ten laps in the yellow flew for the rain and the event was called complete. Wedelstadt took second, followed by Green Bay’s RM Van Pay, Sean Jerovetz of Sobieski and Denmark’s Tim Czarneski.
Denmark’s Rick Mahlberg captured a wild finishing 20 lap stock car feature. On the final lap while heading for the finish line Pulaski’s Junior Karcz spinning in front of the field while attempting to pass Mahlberg for the lead. The finish went back to the last completed lap with Mahlberg getting the win. Points leader Roger Johnson of Saukville took second, followed by Green Bay’s John Heinz, Kewaunee’s Keith Kickbusch and Hilbert’s John Mahlberg. Rick Mahlberg swept the class for the night with his heat win.
Green Bay’s Troy Jerovetz fought off a fast closing duo of Brad Lautenbach of New Franken and Eric Arneson in the final laps to win the 20 lap Sportmod feature. Lautenbach, the opening night feature winner, nipped Arneson at the line to take the runnerup spot. Arneson took third, followed by Pulaski’s JJ Anderson and Green Bay’s Josh Long. Jerovetz netted a sweep for the night.
Brillion’s Ben Stumpf captured the time shortened, caution marred Brian Peterson Builders Grand National feature. Stumpf also won his heat, netting a sweep for the evening. Hank Horn Jr. of Brillion emerged triumphant in the caution marred street stock feature.
