MCGRATH MOPS UP ON 141 MOD FOES
(RECORD 168 CARS SHOW UP IN SIX CLASS SHOW)
(Francis Creek, WI) May 5– Neosho’s Mitch McGrath passed Fremont’s Mike Wedelstadt for the lead on lap seven and battled defending track champ Shawn Jerovetz in the final laps to capture the modified feature at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek on Stock’s Harley Davidson/21 Guns Saloon night.
A weekly record of 168 cars checked in to do battle. The field included 24 modifieds, 19 Brian Peterson Grand Nationals, 31 stock cars, 31 street stocks, 42 IMCA northern sportmods and 22 sport fours.
McGrath swept action as he also won his heat. The second generation driver started in row three and wrestled the top spot away from Wedelstadt after a restart. Jerovetz slipped past Wedelstadt in the final laps to take second. Wedelstadt settled for third, followed by Green Bay’s Kyle Lentz and Dean Maurer of De Pere.
Green Bay’s Eric Mahlik netted a clean sweep of the IMCA northern sportmods division, as did Oconto’s Brian Johnson Jr. in the sport fours.
Defending track champion Junior Karcz of Pulaski outdueled arch rival John Heinz of Green Bay to collect the stock car feature win.
Malone’s Tim Warner captured the Brian Peterson Builders Grand National feature while Sturgeon Bay’s Kevin Luedtke sweated out several caution periods and a late race surge by Mt. Calvary’s Brian Vinney to capture the Tisler Salvage street stock main.
