MCGRATH MASTERS 141 SPEEDWAY MODS

(Francis Creek, WI) August 11 –Mitch McGrath, known as “The Neosho Nightmare” tooks the lead on lap 14 from De Pere’s Jay Matthias and went on to capture the modified feature at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek.

A total of 143 cars checked in to compete. The field included 23 modifieds, 17 Brian Peterson Grand Nationals, 32 stock cars, 25 Tisler Salvage street stocks, 26 IMCA northern sportmods and 19 sport fours.

McGrath netted a sweep in the division. Matthias took 2nd, Sean Jerovetz of Sobieski 3rd, 4th went to Juneau’s Russ Reinwald and Jeremy Jacobs of Algoma ended up in 5th.

Green Bay native John Heinz came through the B-main and started 18th in the feature but still managed to charge his way up to the front to take the lead on lap 12 where he never looked back to capture another feature and pad his points lead at the track in the stock car division. It was Jamie Colwell out of Greenleaf who finished 2nd with his brother Jesse Colwell right behind him in 3rd. Larry Karcz from Pulaski came in 4th and Troy Jerovetz from Green Bay wound up in 5th.

In the Tisler Salvage street stocks Andrew Fuhrmann of Brillion wheeled a 1965 Buick Special to the lead on lap 16 to pick up his first career feature win here at 141 speedway. Three Manitowoc drivers took 2nd, 3rd, and 4th with Brad Laurent in 2nd, Paul Diefenthaler ended up 3rd and Shawn Haydon in 4th. David Gauger Sr. from Two Rivers finish 5th.

In the Brian Peterson Grand Nationals the Sorce boys from West Allis put on a show in the feature finishing 1st and 2nd with Don winning over his brother Dan by a straight away. Malone’s driver Tim Warner finished 3rd with the “Whitelaw Weapon” Kevin Naidl in 4th and Charlie Sancinati of West Allis finished 5th.

Chad Vetting led from the drop of green in a caution filled one of the cautions happening with only two laps to go that he was involved in with Scott Boyea but Vetting got his spot back and crossed the line first in the IMCA northern sportmods feature. However Vetting was found to have illegal spindles on his car, forcing a disqualification. The DQ handed the win to Suamico’s Josh Long. Andy Kleckza took 2nd, Troy Jerovetz from Green Bay 3rd and Kewaunee’s Brian Bruechert came home in a solid 4th.

Cody Hungerford picked up the sport four feature win after he was taken out in turn two on the last lap.
