KILGORE CONQUERS 141 SPEEDWAY MODIFIED FOES

(WEEKLY RECORD 167 CARS ATTEND SEASON OPENER)

(Francis Creek, WI) April 14 – New Franken’s Shawn Kilgore sprinted from his pole position and kept Green Bay’s Benji LaCrosse at bay to capture the opening night modified feature at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek.

A new weekly record 167 cars checked in to do battle. The field included 33 modifieds, 20 Brian Peterson Grand Nationals, 31 stock cars, 28 Tisler Salvage street stocks, 41 IMCA northern sportmods and 14 sport fours.

Kilgore swapped the lead with Green Bay’s Kyle Lentz in the early going of the modified main. LaCrosse, who started fifth, worked his way to third by lap nine. Kilgore hung on to collect the feature flag. LaCrosse took second at the pay widow. Lentz hung on for third. Algoma’s Jeremy Jacobs took fourth with Kewaunee’s Eugene Gregorich rounded out the top five.

Green Bay’s John Heinz fended off Ellisville’s Bob Waechter to win the stock car feature. Green Bay’s Jeremy Jacquet took his highest finish of his career in 3rd. Dustin Loberger of Oconto and defending track champion Junior Karcz of Pulaski took fourth and fifth, respectively. Karcz raced his way into the main by winning one of two last chance races.

West Allis veteran Don Sorce Jr. swept action in the Brian Peterson Builders Grand Nationals class, winning his heat and the crash filled, time shortened main. Malone’s Tim Warner took second, followed by Sheboygan Falls Brian Cesar, Manitowoc’s Logan Rhode, and defending track champion TJ Smith rounding out the top five.

Kewaunee’s Brian Bruechert passed defending track champion Troy Jerovetz of Green Bay with five laps to go on the high side to win the IMCA northern sportmods feature. Jerovetz hung on for second, followed by Suamico’s Josh Long, Shawano’s Cody Hudson and Rob Charapada of Oconto.

Luxemburg’s Mitch Vandermause won his first career Tisler Salvage street stock feature. Freedom’s Travis Springstroh, Two Rivers Jeremy Hebel, Winneconne’s Shawn Hayden and Francis Creek’s Kraig Koehler rounded out the top five finishers.

Little Chute’s Cody Hungerford won the sport four feature.

Next Saturday the high-banked, third-mile, clay oval will play host to the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw sprints in their season opener. A field of close to 30 sprinters is expected. The track record of 11.001, held by Beaver Dam’s Scotty Neitzel, could be in jeopardy. Joining the winged warriors will be street stocks and sport fours. Gates open at 4 p.m. sprint car hot lapping gets underway at 5 p.m. with racing at 6 p.m.
