DEFENDING CHAMPS KILGORE, HEINZ AND LONG WIN 141 SPEEDWAY MAINS
By Chris Janda
(Francis Creek, WI) August 17– New Franken’s Shawn Kilgore sped past polesitter Eugene Gregorich of Kewaunee on lap 15 and cruised to victory in the IMCA modified feature at 141 Speedway Saturday night.
The win was the fourth straight for the defending track champion. The feature was slowed by one lone caution late in the race.
A total of 105 cars checked in to compete, including 19 Hansel Trucking IMCA modifieds, 12 Brian Peterson Grand Nationals, 23 IMCA stock cars, 17 Tisler Salvage street stocks, 23 Hansel Trucking IMCA northern sportmods and 11 sport fours.
Defending IMCA stock car champion John Heinz of Green Bay picked up the division’s feature win.
Devin Snellenberger of Pulaski had the lead early on but was spun and had mechanical issues, handing the lead to Oconto’s Dustin Loberger. Loberger would eventually surrender the lead to Heinz. Heinz went on to capture the feature with Logan Rhode of Whitelaw second, Scott Stewart of Oconto third and Two Creeks Brett Koehler fourth and Larry Karcz of Pulaski fifth.
Defending track champion Josh Long of Little Suamico grabbed the lead on lap 7 and captured the IMCA northern sportmod feature. By winning, he will extend his point lead over second place finisher JJ Anderson of Pulaski. Kewaunee’s Brian Bruechert third, Suamico’s Andy Kleczka fourth and Brandon Long of Little Suamico fifth.
The win was especially satisfying for Long, as he crashed the night before at Luxemburg Speedway. The crew spent the entire day fixing the rear end on his racer.
Abram’s Jessi Ness continues to have bad luck at the track when she spun on lap 5 of the feature and got collected by Tracy Wassenberg and ended up on her roof. She would be ok but has many mechanical woes on her car. It was Ness’ second rollover here of the year.
Campbellsport’s Tim Thompson crossed the line first in the Brian Peterson Builders Grand Nationals. Thompson was docked two positions on a late race restart handing the win to 2nd place finisher Dan Schumacher of Milwaukee. Current point leader Kevin Naidl of Whitelaw finished second, Thompson third after being docked with Ben Stumpf of Brillion fourth.
Hilbert’s Josh McDonald took the lead with 6 laps to go and captured the checkered flag in the Tisler Salvage Street Stocks. Manitowoc’s Ray Fuller second, Dave Gauger of Manitowoc third, Green Bay’s Nick Everard fourth and defending track champion Kraig Koehler of Francis Creek fifth. Current point leader Paul Diefenthaler of Manitowoc was second but was sent to the back because of late race contact with Matt Reinke of Reedsville.
Pulaski’s Matt Brehmer won the sport four main. His father Jeff Brehmer won the previous week.
The final points night of racing will take place next Saturday, August 24. Champions will be crowned in all six divisions. For more information please check 141speedway.com.
