LACROSSE LOOKS TO ADD 141 SPEEDWAY IMCA MOD CHAMPIONSHIP TO HIS TITLE BELT
(Francis Creek, WI) March 20 – Luxemburg native Benji LaCrosse has won on some the modified’s biggest stages.
LaCrosse has won the IMCA Supernationals in Boone, Iowa. He’s captured the Night of 1,000 Stars in Britt, Iowa. He’s won track titles at his home track Luxemburg Speedway, along with Thunder Hill and Seymour Speedways. In 2013 LaCrosse wants to add another notch onto the title belt – 141 Speedway track champion. Lacrosse has announced he’ll compete for the Mike Hansel Trucking IMCA modified track title at the high banked, third mile clay oval on Saturday nights. He’s nearing the century mark in terms of total career modified wins (IMCA, BMT and open sanctions).
LaCrosse admits he’s struggled in his attempts at 141 Speedway during its three years as a dirt track. In 2011 LaCrosse wrecked hard at the end of the year at 141 with a brand new car. “The bird cage broke and we wound up on two wheels,” said LaCrosse. “I maybe have run a total of ten times since it’s been dirt and my luck hasn’t been real good. It seemed every single time I was leading I’d either get caught up in a wreck or blow a motor. I don’t think there’s any real issue, because anytime we’re there we’re fast. Weird stuff seemed to happen when I’m there.”
“Maybe running there every week will change things,” said LaCrosse.
In 2013 Benji will be running a brand new Madman chassis built by Brian Mullen. “Brian (Mullen) and I have been working together for the last three years on setups and such,” said LaCrosse. “I honestly think we brought it up another notch from what we were running before. I’m pretty confident the product we have will be as good, if not better than the chassis we were running in the past. We’ve tweaked a few things and that may make the difference.”
141 has sported three different champions in three years in the modifieds: Luxemburg’s Jared Siefert (2010), Sobieski’s Sean Jerovetz (2011) and New Franken’s Shawn Kilgore (2012). That trio of drivers will be tough to battle for the crown. “CZ (Tim Czarneski) will be a real tough contender,” said LaCrosse. “(Shawn) Kilgore will be awful tough again as well.”
In addition to 141 LaCrosse will chase the Custom Windows Plus Badger Mod Tour presented by Gandrud Chevrolet. “We plan on running 141 weekly, the Badger Mod Tour and bouncing around a bit between Luxemburg on Fridays and some Sundays at Seymour,” said LaCrosse. “As far as the Badger Mod Tour goes Mitch (McGrath) and Brian (Mullen) will be right near the front, along with Russ (Reinwald) who will be tough there, too.”
The season at 141 Speedway is tentatively set to open (weather permitting) Friday and Saturday April 12 and 13 with the BMT opener on Friday night.
