BRIAN MULLEN TO DEBUT HIS NEW, HOMEBUILT CAR AT 141 SPEEDWAY FOR BADGER MOD TOUR FINALE OCT. 5
(Current BMT points leader to shakedown new machine at 141 practice Sept. 29)
(Green Bay, WI) Sept. 28 – Seymour veteran Brian Mullen will debut a brand new, homebuilt race car when he takes his series points lead into the season finale for the Custom Windows Plus Badger Mod
Tour presented by Floors By Design & Directional Drilling Services at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek Friday, October 5.
Mullen actually plans on shaking his new machine down at 141 Speedway for their open practice session Saturday, September 29 at 1 p.m. Spectator admission is free for that event. “I’ve got the motor, tranny and a bunch of parts out of my old car already, so we’re going to run the new one for the Badger Mod Tour finale at 141,” said Mullen. “It’s probably not the smartest thing to roll the dice with a brand new car for the last series race. But we plan on going to Kansas in October and will race that car a little bit more this year.”
Mullen currently holds a 4 point lead over Neosho’s Mitch McGrath, who’s won three BMT races this season driving his Wild Inc. chassis.
In the last BMT appearance at 141 Speedway at the Clash @ Creek IV June 27, Mullen led 38 of 40 laps, dropping out of the 40 lap main suffering a cut tire after making contact with a lapped car. “Some folks may think I’m snakebitten there or something, but I don’t think so,” said Mullen. “141′s a great track run by some great people. For as little as I’ve been able to run there, I think we’ve got a pretty good winning percentage at 141.” Mullen won the Clash @ Creek III in 2011, and has raced at the high-banked, third mile clay oval spariningly since it was converted to a dirt track in 2010.
For many years Mullen has flown the Harris Racing banner, having run their equipment for many seasons. But Mullen, one of Wisconsin’s winningest modified drivers with 16 track and series titles under his belt and 145 career modified feature wins, already has orders for new cars to be built. “We’re busy getting our new shop up and running,” said Mullen. “Our business will be called Pro World Race Parts. Our shop is going to be located 2 miles north of highway 41 on highway 47, near Mackville.”
Pro World Racing Parts is owned by IMCA northern sportmod driver Greg and Carol Wichman. Mullen will be leaving his soon-to-be former employer Prestige Custom Cabinets, owned by former modified
champion Mike Mashl. “I worked for Mike 14 years and I’ll still help him out a couple of days a week until he gets someone else settled in. As a racer himself, Mike gets it.”
Pro World Racing Parts will be a full service racing shop. “I’ve got four or five cars in for repair work right now,” said Mullen. “My son Matt Mullen will also operate his Badger Race Wraps business out our building. We’ve got a 60 x 100 shop and a 40 x 50 showroom. We’ll build mods and sportmods and do all sorts of repair work.”
A full BMT program will be run Friday night, including heats, B mains and the A main. The last time the BMT ran at 141 was for the Clash @ Creek IV June 27 when Middleton, Wisconsin’s Lemirande wound up victorious. 58 BMT mods competed that night, and 95 different drivers in four states have competed in the Tour’s six shows so far this year.
Heat races will also be run Friday night in the stock car, Brian Peterson Builders Grand Nationals, Tisler Salvage street stocks, sportmods, hobby stocks, sport fours and 600 micro sprints.
On Saturday a full modified program featuring heats, B mains and the A main will take place running 141 Speedway’s weekly track rules. Last chance qualifiers and A mains will be run in the above mentioned classes. The Jr. sprints will also make their appearance of the weekend on Saturday.
1st Choice Auto of Green Bay is awarding a $100 long haul award to the driver in any division who tows the furthest to compete. They are also sponsoring a $100 hard luck award as well.
On Friday night live entertainment will be provided by Diamond & Steel. Saturday night the regionally popular band Annex will entertain fans after the races. The Victory Lane sports bar opens for business Wednesday night, with the pit area opening Thursday at 4 p.m. Racing begins at 6 p.m. Friday and at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Breakfast will be served Saturday morning at the main food stand with seating available in the bar.
The raindate for this event if needed will be Sunday, October 7. For more information check 141speedway.com. For more information on the Badger Mod Tour check out badgermodtour.com.
