BALOG COLLECTS 15TH IRA WIN OF 2012 AT 141 SPEEDWAY
(Francis Creek, WI) Sept. 2 – Defending Bumper to Bumper IRA sprint car champion Billy Balog of Eau Claire stormed past Antioch, Illinois’ Tommy Sexton on lap 11 for the lead and went on to capture the 30 lap A main at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek Sunday. It was his second win here of the season and his 15th overall in IRA action in 2012 for the current series points leader.
A total of 97 cars checked in to do battle in the four class show. The field included 30 sprinters, 32 Tisler Salvage street stocks, 21 mini sprints and 14 sport fours.
Sexton jumped into the lead at the drop of the green and kept the top spot. Balog ducked underneath Sexton and a lapped car out of turn two to grab the lead on lap 11. Balog had already began sifting through lapped cars by then. The race was slowed only once for a Steve Meyer spin on lap 21. On the restart Balog sprinted out to a sizeable lead and hung onto the win.
Beaver Dam’s Scotty Neitzel came home second while Howards Grove’s Mike Reinke outdueled Fredonia’s Mike Kertscher to take the third spot.
In the track’s first appearance by the Mini Sprints it was Billy Brickly of Peoria, IL who crossed the line first in the mini sprint feature. However Brickly was disqualified following a post race inspection. That handed the win to 2nd place finisher Tim Brannam of Barrington, IL with Andrew Kidreski from Union Grove finishing 2nd. Jimmy Scanlon of Zion, IL came home 3rd.
Beaver Dam’s Kelly Brown makes the long haul up to 141 Speedway and picks up the clean sweep tonight in the Tisler Salvage Street Stocks. Trevor Schmidt took 2nd and Paddock Lakes Dan Huber takes 3rd in his dirt street stock that he also runs at Wilmot and sometimes on asphalt in Rockford. Weekly drivers David Gauger picked up 4th and Shawn Haydon took 5th. Mike Montie won the 15 lap sport four feature. Scott Johnson of Oconto Falls takes 2nd and Jeff Brehmer took 3rd.
Action was halted during the sprint car B main, when on lap 7 fast qualifier Todd King of Sheboygan Falls got up in the marbles in turn 1 and ran up the wall before flipping up against the fence and taking out two posts. The race was delayed as track crews had to repair the fence.
The next racing action on tap at 141 Speedway will be the annual Creek Classic October 5 and 6. On Friday night the season finale will be held for the Custom Windows Plus Badger Mod Tour presented by Floors By Design & Directional Drilling Services.
